Last Tuesday (11th October, 2016), we started to prepare a field site for phytoremediation-phytomanagement research, as part of our Interreg PhytoSUDOE project. The site is located in the industrial area of Júndiz, very close to the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz (Álava, Spain). The field site has: (i) an area of degraded, but not contaminated, soil and (ii) an area of contaminated soil. In this contaminated area, we have decided to use an intercropping phytomanagement design, with poplar trees and alfalfa. In the degraded area, we will also establish an intercropping system with willow trees and rape plants. Last Tuesday, we collected soil samples for a more complete characterization of the distribution and concentration of the contaminants in this field site.
