We present our results on the “Morphological and genetic characterization of arbuscular mycorrhizal communities in the Gorbeia Natural Park” at the III Iberian Congress of Biological Systematics (CISA 2015; Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, 17-18 December 2015). These results are part of the MICOSOIL project (BERRIKER Call, Basque Government) that we are currently developing in close collaboration with the company BIOGENETICS, S.L.U. and the University of the Basque Country. In this study, our main objective is to compare morphological and genetic techniques for characterizing the diversity and composition of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in the Gorbeia Natural Park. We have concluded that the genetic approach is less time consuming and gives more discriminative results; besides, mountain and valley samples are different in terms of diversity and composition of arbuscular endomycorrhizal communities.
