The Master “Environmental Agrobiology”, organised by the University of the Basque Country, is focused on the links between agriculture and the environment, with special emphasis on the following four scientific areas: ecophysiology of stress in plants, ecosystem sustainability, contamination and waste management, and techniques in environmental agrobiology.
This academic year, Carlos Garbisu presented our work on soil microbial diversity as indicator of soil functioning in contaminated areas. Apart from our work on metal contaminated soil, this academic year, he has focused an important part of his participation on the problems and questions posed by those industrial sites characterized by the presence of a mixture of organic and inorganic (trace elements) contaminants. Finally, he discussed the possibilities of combining nanoremediation, with zero-valent nanoparticles, and bioremediation for the recovery of soils contaminated with polychlorobiphenyls.
